The people of Amsterdam LOVE Troma and legal weed, perhaps we should relocate our offices there...
The admiration can be seen in this letter:
Hey Lloyd,
In the brochure of the Filmmuseum of March 2010, attention was paid to The Amsterdam Tromathon.
All the films that will be screened on March 20 at the Filmmuseum are described and also your
presence and masterclass have been mentioned. In addition to this, they've added that the festival
continues on March 21 at Cinema OT301. A picture of The Toxic Avenger was printed, too (in color). See
the enclosed scan. We've put together a second press release in which we have given some additional
information and have laid emphasis on the possibility for the press to interview you.
All the best,
Ton.
and this newspaper mention:

Troma film festival, with master class by Lloyd Kaufman
On March 20 and 21, 2010, a film festival that people will talk about for a long time afterwards will come to Amsterdam, the Netherlands: The Amsterdam Tromathon!
At two venues, the Filmmuseum and Cinema OT301, seven classic movies from the New York-based independent film company Troma Entertainment will be screened.
In addition to this, there will be a special program on Troma president Lloyd Kaufman, who will be guest of honor of the festival. The legendary filmmaker and co-founder of Troma will introduce films, participate in Q&A’s and have signing sessions. But that’s not all: he will also present the master class Make Your Own Damn Movie! which has become a success worldwide. Furthermore, Troma merchandise will be sold at both venues.

Troma, a company with cult status
Limbs flying about, (half)naked ladies and creatures fabricated with a lot a creativity rather than a lot of financial and technological means… The production and distribution company Troma from New York City guarantees an entertaining mix of outrageous humor, tongue-in-cheek horror, wild action, intense drama and social comment.
Since its foundation in 1974, the studio has reached an absolute cult status with titles of great reputation such as Class of Nuke ‘em High (1986), Surf Nazis Must Die (1987), Tromeo & Juliet (1996) en Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead (2006). The absolute classic The Toxic Avenger from 1984 was a major breakthrough and made the company’s movies popular among a large audience. Troma also stood at the cradle of the career of A-list actors like Kevin Costner, Samuel L. Jackson, Billy Bob Thornton, Marisa Tomei and Vincent D’Onofrio. Renowned filmmakers like Oliver Stone, Eli Roth and James Gunn once worked for Troma as well.
Film lesson by Lloyd Kaufman
On Saturday March 20, three Troma classics will be screened at the Filmmuseum: Surf Nazis Must Die, The Toxic Avenger and Troma’s War. What’s very special is that all drie of the titles will be shown on 35mm format. On Sunday March 21, The Amsterdam Tromathon moves to Cinema OT301, with digital screenings of Terror Firmer, Tromeo & Juliet, Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV. On both days, the program runs from 4 pm until midnight.
On Saturday March 20, Lloyd Kaufman will present the master class Make Your Own Damn Movie!, for which no admission will be charged. In the timeframe of one and half hour, he will share his more than three decades of experience with the audience. Step-by-step, he will discuss the process of making an independent movie.
Lloyd Kaufman will personally introduce most of the films and each day will participate in a Q&A. The language used is English; all films are screened without subtitles. One of the Q&A’s will be hosted by Australian actress Vanessa de Largie, who stars in the upcoming Troma release A Nocturne, a philosophical vampire drama by Australian visionary indie filmmaker Bill Mousoulis.
During the festival, merchandise will be sold, but fans can also have their own paraphernalia signed.

From sexy comedies to cult films
After his study at Yale University, Lloyd Kaufman (1945) made the most divergent low-budget films, varying from The Battle of Love’s Return (1971) – a comedy about the journey of a man (Kaufman) to find himself – until the soft-focus lesbian love story Sugar Cookies (1972), on which Oliver Stone served as associate producer. In 1974, Kaufman founded Troma with business partner Michael Herz. The first years, the Troma studio made sexy comedies like The First Turn-On! and Squeeze Play! With The Toxic Avenger, the tale of a strong, mutated super hero, Troma acquired world fame as a cult film factory. Thirty-six years en dozens of films later, Kaufman is still active in his battle against the monopoly of Hollywood. In 2003, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival.

GREETINGS FROM TROMAVILLE!
"Not the government!" Isn't just something I shout out when the feds start
snooping around the Troma building. It's the name of one of my latest and
greatest discoveries! Not The Government is a fantastic rock and roll bandfrom
Los angeles California. I know, I know, they aren't the usual Poppy, or even
Pop punky kids you would expect to see playing in the clubs of Los angeles.
That's exactly what interested me in them. That, and their ample breasted lady
friends.
Anyway, getting to the point, i recently directed a video for them. I sincerely
hope that you'll check out their music, and friend request them on their
myspace,www.myspace.com/notthegovernment Please don't be shy about downloading their
new album "cell phone tower", which is premiering on i-tunes next week. (my
favorite song is "midnight" of course!) i would like to encourage every citizen of
Tromaville to welcome this band of outcasts to our little family! It's Troma
approved!
Remember, independent music struggles under the thumb of the very same entertainment
industry conglomerates as Independent film does!It is the duty of every Tromaville
citizen to recognize and elevate one another out of the muck of a watered down,
sterilized, sanitized and lobotomized culture.we can no longer be content to live in
the gutters of a land where men doused in buckets of Hugo Boss drive their Beamers
around town talking on two Bluetooth cell phones simultaneously while deciding what
we watch, and listen to.
So if you aren't too busy watching Obama smile incessantly as hordes of starstruck
zombies waving american flags applaud, then log onto YouTube to watch an the amazing
music video I directed for not the government's catchy tune "Midnight". http://www.youtube.com/NotTheGovernment
If you like the song, buy it on i-tunes. Hell, buy the whole album! You'll thank
me for it later!

The Toxic Avenger
Lia Grainger, National Post Published: Wednesday, July 08, 2009
In the midst of a lengthy summer garbage strike, Toronto has never been in so great a need of a singing, mutated, eco-friendly superhero to save the city from its growing piles of refuse. Fittingly, Dancap Productions announced yesterday that it will launch the Canadian premiere of The Toxic Avenger musical this fall. The stage adaptation of the 1984 Lloyd Kaufman cult classic film will begin its Canadian run this Halloween at The Music Hall on Danforth Avenue.
A pioneer of the 1980s Hollywood camp or B-movie genre, Kaufman was ecstatic to see his most successful creation on the stage when the play opened in New York late last year. "I'm finally involved with something I can take my wife and her friends to without them passing out," the New Yorker says of the theatrical adaptation
The original film is a darkly comic superhero flick about a 98-pound weakling from Tromaville, the most polluted town in New Jersey. The film's puny hero is transformed into a deformed Herculean figure after falling into a vat of toxic waste. "Toxie" spends the rest of the film pursuing the affections of a (conveniently) blind librarian while brutally murdering those who formerly taunted him.
"My wife always says, 'You always take it too far,' " says Kaufman of the over-the-top, campy films he's been making for 40 years. "This musical version captures the humour and satire of the original film and mainstreams it."
The Toxic Avenger musical was an instant hit when it opened in New York last year, winning acclaim from critics and audiences along with several awards. Back in 1984, though, the road to recognition for the original film was far more daunting. "Not one movie theatre would play it," Kaufman recalls. It took about six months and an endorsement from a friend of Andy Warhol's named Jackie Renault to get the film into the Bleecker Street Cinema in New York's Greenwich Village. The film would eventually play in 2,000 cinemas and would inspire three sequels, a children's cartoon series, a video game and an extensive line of Toxie merchandise.
The Music Hall is undergoing extensive renovations specifically for this production. Kaufman is particularly excited about the plans for the exterior. "They're going to have a beautiful front with giant toxic waste barrels and green toxic waste slime on the sidewalks," says Kaufman of the proposed facade. "And, of course, there's a bar right next door, so I'll have my own toxic waste -- we're big on that in Tromaville."

With his newest show, Aubrey Dan is bringing Dancap to the Danforth neighbourhood as part of his continuing quest to crack Toronto's downtown musical-theatre market.
The Canadian premiere of The Toxic Avenger, an off-Broadway musical based on the campy 1984 horror film of the same name, will open on Halloween at the Music Hall on Danforth Avenue, which will be freshly renovated for the occasion.
The team at Dancap Productions had been eyeing the Music Hall as a potential venue when Dan travelled to see The Toxic Avenger two months ago. Though wary at first, he found the show charming and thought it a good fit for the 998-seat Music Hall, even though the show is currently playing in a house roughly half that size at New World Stages in New York.
Dan calls the timing "serendipitous," and since then has rapidly negotiated a "long-term" agreement with the Music Hall, as well as the first licence to mount The Toxic Avenger outside New York. Dan said he expects that if all goes well, Dancap will continue to use the hall as a home for future productions.
"We see this as another home for Dancap," he said.
Dan is hoping that the hall will give Dancap a predictable, sustainable home in the heart of Toronto to help it compete with Mirvish Productions, which owns the Canon Theatre, the Panasonic Theatre, the Princess of Wales Theatre and the Royal Alexandra Theatre, giving it a virtual lock on available downtown venues. The Music Hall is primarily a stage for rock concerts, but will also play host to Secrets of a Black Boy by Trey Anthony, the playwright behind 'Da Kink in my Hair, starting in September.
Dan also said that because of the Music Hall's smaller size, this deal does not preclude his ambitions to cement a programming arrangement with the 3,200-seat Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, which has been tied up by renovation delays that forced Dan to cancel a run of Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas The Musical, slated to open in November. Dancap has been staging the Tony Award-winning Jersey Boys since last August at the farther-flung Toronto Centre for the Arts in North York.
The renovations under way at the Music Hall are "pretty significant," Dan said, including the installation of new seats, cosmetic tweaks to the interior and renovations of everything from dressing rooms to washrooms. Dancap and the Music Hall are sharing the bill, which Dan said is "not tons of money, because they've got the infrastructure, so it's more cosmetic."
Dan was first attracted to The Toxic Avenger because of his links to, and admiration for, its creative team. The music is by David Bryan, the original keyboardist for Bon Jovi, and the book is by Joe DiPietro, of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change fame. The duo also joined forces to create Memphis, a musical backed by Dan that will open on Broadway this fall. And director John Rando worked with Dan on a pair of past shows, Urinetown and The Wedding Singer.
"So right off the bat, the quality, the calibre of Broadway talent at an off-Broadway price was really attractive to me," Dan said, adding that he did not turn to an off-Broadway show because of a lack of options and calling his Broadway pipeline "phenomenal."
He is also hoping the show, which has yet to be cast, can attract a new audience from the ranks of fans of the original Lloyd Kaufman film, as well as its many spinoffs.
"You could see it appealed to a wide variety of young and old," he said. "And it was farcical. It was a night you could laugh and enjoy, which quite frankly, we need."
Toronto’s Dancap Productions has landed the hit musical The Toxic Avenger.
Based on the 1984 cult classic film by Lloyd Kaufman about a seven-foot eco-mutant, the show will open on Halloween at The Music Hall at 147 Danforth Ave. The Toxic Avenger won the 1009 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best New Off-Broadway Musical. It’s the first time the show will be produced outside New York.
Toxic Avenger invades on Halloween night
By JOHN COULBOURN

Sun Media -- This Halloween, you might just find yourself hanging out with a seven-foot-tall mutant freak from New Jersey -- if you play your cards right.
Dancap Productions announced yesterday it will open a new production of the David Bryan/Joe DiPietro muscial, The Toxic Avenger, in a newly renovated Music Hall on the Danforth, on Halloween night.
Billed as a toxic love story with an environmental twist, and based on the 1984 cult film, it tells the story of Melvin Ferd, who sets out to save Tramaville, N.J., and ends up transformed into a super-hero after he's dumped in a barrel of toxic waste.
With casting already underway, the new production of the The Toxic Avenger, winner of the 2009 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best New off-Broadway Musical, will feature an all-Canadian cast under the direction of American John Rando.

Dancap Productions will bring The Toxic Avenger, an off-Broadway rock musical that began life as a 1984 B-movie, to Toronto this fall.
It is the first new production announcement in more than a year for Dancap, which is still running the popular musical Jersey Boys at the Toronto Centre for the Arts in North York.
The Toxic Avenger will begin Halloween night at The Music Hall, a 998-seat theatre on the Danforth in east Toronto that is more often used for rock concerts.
The Toxic Avenger won a 2009 Outer Critics Circle Award for best new off-Broadway musical and continues its New York run at New World Stages.
Described as a musical comedy, it will have its Canadian premiere in Toronto.
The story, based on a movie of the same name, is about a New Jersey boy who transforms into a mutant freak with superhuman strength after being dumped into a vat of radioactive waste.
He begins a crusade to clean up the town, turf out the mayor's bullies and win the love of his life
John Rando, who directed Urinetown and The Wedding Singer, will direct an all-Canadian cast, Dancap announced Tuesday.
The Toxic Avenger features music and lyrics by David Bryan, a former Bon Jovi member, and book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro, who has worked on musicals such as Memphis, All Shook Up, and Over the River and Through the Woods.
Taking a new theatre production to the Danforth is a gamble for Dancap.
However, the theatre company has had difficulty scheduling its productions in downtown theatres since rival Mirvish bought the Canon and Panasonic theatres last year.

Dancap Productions produces the Canadian premiere, which will play the 998-seat Music Hall, which is currently being renovated for the production.
The Toxic Avenger features music and lyrics by Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan (Memphis), and book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change; Memphis).
Based on the 1984 Lloyd Kaufman cult film, press notes for Toxic Avenger read: "Melvin Ferd the Third wants to clean up Tromaville, the most polluted town in New Jersey (just off Exit 13B on the Turnpike). Foiled by the on-the-take mayor's bullies, Melvin is dumped into a vat of radioactive toxic waste, only to reemerge as The Toxic Avenger New Jersey's first superhero."

TORONTO - A stage musical based on the '80s cult film "The Toxic Avenger" is coming to Toronto.
Dancap Productions Inc. says the "eco-monster musical comedy" will make its Canadian premiere Halloween night, Oct. 31.
"The Toxic Avenger" is based on the 1984 movie of the same name, about a New Jersey boy who falls into a vat of radioactive waste and is transformed into a seven-foot mutant with superhuman strength.
It features music and lyrics by Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan, as well as Joe DiPietro.
John Rando, who helmed the Broadway shows "Urinetown" and "The Wedding Singer," will direct.
Dancap says its production will feature a Canadian cast and band. Tickets go on sale Aug. 7.
An ongoing version in New York won the 2009 Outer Critics Circle Award for best new off-Broadway musical and this week celebrated its 100th performance.

Glitterati plead for Drabinsky
Who's who of arts scene ask judge to be lenient with theatre powerhouse guilty of fraud, forgery
Jul 07, 2009 10:58 AM
Peter Small
Courts Bureau
They wrote to praise Drabinsky, not to bury him.
Actors, directors, writers and even a former politician sent letters to a Toronto judge, filed yesterday, supporting theatre impresario Garth Drabinsky at his sentencing hearing for fraud.
"Madam Justice, perhaps we need to recognize this man for his achievement even as we admonish him for his mistakes," Stratford veteran Martha Henry wrote to Justice Mary Lou Benotto.
"In many ways, he has put us on the map. Like a Houdini or a Conrad Black, he has provided us with a measure of our own fallibility, given us limits, showed us that we can dream, push the envelope, explode our own myths."
Writer E.L. Doctorow, whose novel Ragtime Drabinsky turned into a Broadway hit, called him "an impresario of the old school, with the energy and passion to marshal the many talents required to produce brilliant theatre."
Among the other 46 letter writers were former prima ballerina Karen Kain, architect Moshe Safdie, painter Alex Colville, director-producer Harold Prince, actor Christopher Plummer and former Toronto mayor David Crombie.
Drabinsky's lawyer, Edward Greenspan, argued it is impossible to read the letters without envisioning an extraordinary man.
"If there is ever a time that a person's good deeds should weigh heavily ... it has to be at the time of sentencing."
In March, Benotto convicted Drabinsky and his former business partner, Myron Gottlieb, with whom he founded Livent Inc., their Tony Award-winning theatre production company, to two counts of fraud and one of forgery.
She ruled the two had engaged in a kickback scheme when the company was private, then, after it went public in 1993 until they were ousted in 1998, consistently misstated its profits to attract investors.
During that time, Toronto-based Livent boasted such international hits as Ragtime, Showboat and Kiss of the Spider Woman.
Greenspan argued Drabinsky should receive a conditional, or stay-at-home, sentence of two years less a day, followed by three years probation.
Greenspan pointed to Drabinsky's deteriorating health, stemming from childhood polio that left him with a pronounced limp, making "incarceration in a practical and real sense, more punitive."
The fraud was committed to keep his ambitious theatre company afloat, not for greed, he said.
But the Crown asked the judge to impose a prison sentence of eight to 10 years for both men.
"It's clear this was an enormous fraud," Crown prosecutor Alex Hrybinsky told Benotto, arguing a conditional sentence would not be appropriate.
They directed staff to perpetrate the fraud, and stood the most to gain, he said. "They had the power to stop it, though they never did so."
The total amount that Drabinsky, 60, and Gottlieb, 65, defrauded individuals and institutions is not clear, but the Crown said their scheme helped attract $500 million in loans and investments.
Investors would have lost "a significant amount," Hrybinsky said.
But Greenspan countered that the Crown has failed to prove how much the losses were, beyond "a fair amount."
Hrybinsky said the fact that Drabinsky and Gottlieb were prominent members of the community in positions of trust, heading a public company, was an aggravating factor in sentencing.
Sentencing submissions continue today, when Gottlieb's lawyer, Brian Greenspan, is to begin his arguments.

Livent producers learn fate Aug. 5
Drabinsky, Gottlieb sentencing concluded
By JENNIE PUNTER
TORONTO -- The two-day sentencing hearing of former Broadway producer Garth Drabinsky and business partner Myron Gottlieb concluded Tuesday with another deferment.
An Ontario Superior Court judge has set Aug. 5 as the date the defendants will learn their penalty for defrauding Livent investors of about C$500 million ($430 million).
It's yet another intermission in a lengthy legal production that began with a four-year investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, followed by a six-year delay, then a 13-month trial that ended March 25 with the conviction of both Drabinsky and Gottlieb on two counts of fraud and one count of forgery.
During this week's sentencing hearing, the court heard Drabinsky's lawyer Edward Greenspan read from 46 letters, including character testimonials from arts luminaries such as actor Christopher Plummer, producer-director Harold Prince and author E.L. Doctorow, whose novel "Ragtime" spawned the Broadway musical originally produced by Livent.
Citing Drabinsky's artistic accomplishments, "good deeds" and health considerations, Greenspan urged the judge to consider a conditional sentence of two years' house arrest, followed by three years' probation and 240 hours of community service. Gottlieb's lawyer also presented letters from friends and business associates, arguing for a similar sentence.
On Monday Crown attorney Alex Hrybinsky called for an eight-to-10-year prison sentence for the Livent co-founders. "It was in no way a one-time event or a lapse in judgment," Hrybinsky told the court.
In Canada, the maximum sentence for fraud is 10 years, for forgery 14.

Broadway box office drops over holiday
Only 'Conquests' bucked the downward trend
By GORDON COX
As usual, the fireworks and barbecues of the Fourth of July holiday overshadowed such indoor pursuits as theatergoing, with Broadway B.O. dropping almost across the board.
The only production to buck the downward trend was "The Norman Conquests," up slightly to $320,397. Import of Alan Ayckbourn's Brit trilogy has been slowly gaining ground in the weeks since scoring positive reviews and picking up the revival Tony, although the run -- limited to 16 weeks -- won't be long enough for the production to recoup, according to producer Sonia Friedman.
Total sales slid $2.7 million to $18.8 million for 24 shows on the boards, with the dip compounded by the absence of recently shuttered productions including "August: Osage County."
The big-name hits still attracted auds, with five shows posting sales above the $1 million mark. Even a 9% dip of more than $125,000 proved relatively insignificant at "West Side Story" ($1,253,984) -- although a drop of about the same amount at "Hair" ($999,471) caused the show to fall just short of that million-dollar line.
Largest loss of the week, a 16% drop of $140,000, was posted by "South Pacific" ($745,970), the hot-ticket revival of last year that has cooled a bit in recent months and consequently proved increasingly vulnerable to streetwide trends.
"Shrek the Musical" ($853,080), "9 to 5" ($675,136), "Rock of Ages" ($569,432) and "Next to Normal" ($418,644) were also among the tuners to see B.O. dips of 10%-15%, although "Rock" and "Normal" each logged attendance percentages in the high 90s.
Despite the anticipated slip in B.O., the Main Stem's cumulative attendance remained fairly robust at 221,717, or 89% of overall capacity. That's about on par with the same frame last year.
Look how excited the rock stars from New Found Glory and Paramore are about tickets to go see The Toxic Avenger Musical!

Lloyd Kaufman Here,
Last weekend I attended deadCENTER Fest in Oklahoma
City, the Gyno operated and incredibly well-organized
festival showcased a slue of brilliant films and relevant
panel discussions on the state of Independent Cinema.
I mention that deadCENTER Fest was organized by Gynos
(more politically correct term for woman) because it
was the best run film festival I’ve ever been
to! The G.O.C’s for the festival (Gyno’s
in Charge) were Melissa Scaramucci, Kim Haywood, and
Cacky Poarch. They took care of every detail, everything
at deadCENTER went on without a hitch or a glitch, they
are all perfect human specimens!!! The Film Fest was
refreshingly idealistic, untainted by the cynicism and
evils of Hollywood. This was truly a film fest for Independent
films, supported and organized by lovers of Independent
film.
A couple films I attended especially kicked ass! Specifically,
Weather Girl, Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo, Poultrygeist:
Night of the Chicken Dead (my film of course), Saint
Misbehavin’: The Wavy Gravy Movie, and Official
Rejection, which I was in and elaborates on the BS I
have encountered at so called mainstream film festivals.
I recommend deadCENTER Festival to all filmmakers, regardless
of experience or genre. This is Uncle Lloydie’s
highest endorsement. Take it and spread the word kiddies!
Looking forward to next year’s deadCENTER Fest!
Xoxo,
Uncle Lloyd

Lloyd Kaufman has a cameo in world famous
phtographer, David Houncheringer's, newest series, "Do
You Want to Die?"
There is an opening for the exhibition of photography in Paris
the 19th of March, check out more by clicking HERE.
Below is a short description of the show:
*“Do You
Want to Die Today?”*
is a collision between phantasmagorical playground and
contemporary socio-psychological reality. A collaboration
with makeup artist Vanaelle
Mercanton, these controlled environments manage to transcend
their own complexity
to illuminate us to a very simple conclusion; while the act
of death is violent, the after
is rather still. This eerie calmness in Houncheringer’s
series permits us to linger on
the absurdity, the beauty, and the pure curiosity that propulses
us into an investigative
dissection of what exactly this sudden disconnection consists
of. The humor of the
images allows us to facedeath a little longer and confront
the violence that preceded it.
Hailing from a characteristically non violent country, Swiss
photographer David
Houncheringer does not attempt to show us violence or death
but rather our
position vis a vis its representation. In the global truth
of exorbitant media, it is an
opportunity to stop and digest horrors that exist, confront
them with a raised eyebrow
rather than a raised fist.

A Review of Lloyd Kaufman's new book,
Direct Your Own Damn Movie
Some years ago Troma´s Lloyd Kaufman
wrote "Make Your Own Damn Movie", a
book very helpful for young and old movie maniacs who decide
to shoot their own
movies. Now Mr Kaufman wrote another book, "Direct Your
Own Damn Movie". If
you think now it´s about directing you are wrong. Like
"Make" the new book is
more about Producing and Directing your own damn movie and
it makes sense as
in the low budget business the director very often is also
the producer (and
writer and DP).
There are countless books about making and directing movies,
some very good
ones like Truffaut´s book-interview on Alfred Hitchcock
and his movies and
Blumenberg´s excellent book on Howard Hawks and
Jerry Lewis also wrote a hilarious book about movie making.
What makes Kaufman´s book so interesting is not only
that Troma works
totally independent and so shows to young directors and producers
they acually can
make whatever they want without being part of the devil-worshipping
multimillion conglomerates, but the books of Lloyd Kaufman
are only part one: part
two
are two dvd box sets, a 5 dvd box set "Make Your Own
Damn Movie" and a 3 DVD
box set "Direct".
Both books and the DVDs show you, and I mean actually SHOW
you how to
produce and direct. The books and the DVDs are an experience
you will not have just
reading another book about movie making.
Lloyd runs around with a camera around the set of his own
movies and on the
sets he visits and he records EVERYTHING, asks the right questions
and shows
you what not to do and what to do. It´s one thing to
write about a crew who
does not know how to light a scene or record sound and another
thing to show it
to you on DVD. It´s fun to read the book, it´s
fun to watch the dvds and
it´s fun o learn!
There are interviews with succeful directors/writers like
Eli Roth, James
Gunn, Stan Lee and many others, sometimes first time low budget
directors. You
learn how to shoot a feature with a Bolex without sound and
you are taught to
develop an own system to make movies. What works for Troma
may not work for
you but what books and dvds show you must develop your own
system.
There are plenty of good advises especiall from Lloyd Kaufman
himself and
Eli Roth reflecting what idiots directors sometime can be
treating their cast
and crew wrong. Eli Roth mentions how important it is to say
thank you,
something all those wannabe-Otto Premingers should finally
understand.
There is also a great interview in the book with legend Stan
Lee who tries
to convince Lloyd that the audience would love to see him
doing more mainstream
movies. I totally agree and would love to see the actor Lloyd
Kaufman in big
budget Eli Roth movies. As director and producer Lloyd Kaufman
of course
will always be Troma. Book and DVDs have more treasures you
can name. The South
Park creators and James Gunn tell you how to go from low budget
to big budget
and on DVD you have an insight behind the scenes and festivals
with
documentaries like "All the Love you Cannes".
But most of all books and dvds are about passion. You´ll
watch Lloyd Kaufman
going mad when an audience of Zombies applauds Lloyd´s
lifetime enemy Jack
Valenti and a very heartbreaking interview with director Vincent
Sherman about
being blacklisted, nightmare of most artists. It also reminds
us that making
movies is not just fun it´s also freedom, a kind of
freedom some people do
not want to be around. So for your own sake, buy the books
and dvds and then
make your own damn movies the way you want them to be made.

Some sad news, a good friend of Troma and an amazing independent artist,
Mike Pilsch has passed away.
Below is an obituary from his friend/artistic partner, Brian Myers:
Greetings Tromaville,
Brian aka Bob from the E-Z Cheez Bros here with some sad news.
My best friend/creative partner Mike aka Gym has passed away after a long battle with Cancer.
Our time making cartoons for Troma was one of the happiest times of our lives and we missed
creating adventures for Tromaboy, Kabukiman and Penis Monster and even had come up with some
new cartoon ideas while he was going through treatment. Sadly though we'll never get a
chance to work on those ideas together. Mike battled against the Cancer for almost two years
before the chemo had caused so much damage to his lungs that they just gave out and he
passed away Feb 12th. Troma was the only place that ever gave us a chance to pursue our
dream and do it on our terms and create uncompromised visions with creative control and
freedom and most of all respect. I want to thank you all for the support you gave us and
thank Lloyd and Michael for giving two shmucks from Spokane a chance to do nothing but
create cartoons for a living and even for a brief time live our dream.
R.I.P. Mike Pilsch 1977-2009
Thank You,
Brian Myers

Lloyd Kaufman's newest literary Tromasterpiece: Direct Your Own Damn Movie
Read this amazing review:
"So maybe we see in the US. when reading your new book I remember when I was a child living near Baden-Baden
we had a neighbor, a farmer. I´ve never seen doing him that but a lot of people told me he used to
drown little cats. I always loved cats and I considered him kind of a monster...actually I´ve watched him and
our butcher when they killed a pig. also horribel experience for a child. My grandma monster used to
decapitate hens. When I think about, I had a horrible childhood."

Below are two of the greatest POULTRYGEIST fan letters of all time!
#1
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Poultrygeist is a fucking masterpiece. Pure and simple. Thank you so much for giving your fans what they want. The DVD rivals the Fight club DVD. I mean seriously, you went all out. I drove forty five minutes to the outskirts of rodando beach to go to best buy to buy the DVD (The best buy near my house was all sold out). You know that quote by trufaut where he said he only wants to see movies that show either the agony or ecstasy of making a film? Well your films display both. And none moreso then poultrugeist. I mean, making a movie is not glamourous at all, it's hard work and splintered nerves, and you show this with the poultrygeist dvd. My only problem is that vidiots doesn't carry it! I'm not sure if your familiar with vidiots, but I'm pretty certain you are because they have their own troma section! If it wasn't for vidiots, I wouldn't be as familiar with the troma library as I am. And for that reason, I think you should send them over a copy. Don't do it for me (I already have my copy) do it for that cool, curious kid who lives in santa monica and would otherwise not know that films of this caliber exist. Seriously Loyd (do you mind if I call you lloyd? Mr Kaufman sounds so kiss assey) do it for that kid. You don't know the thrill of tromatizing someone. For example: I have a brother eight years my junior (I'm twenty five) one night I showed him the first toxic crusader and it completely blew his mind. Your films are alot like ichi the killer, in the sense that you could unleash it on a handful of friends and it all feels like a sick demented party. So allow me to say that vidiots are card carrying friends of troma and deserve to have poultrygeist stocked on their shelves. Thank you lloyd for making my weekend. To put how much I love poultrygeist in perspective, I went to a strip club last night and I really don't remember what any of the chicks looked like. All I remember is the fact that Jason Yachanin was fucking amazing as Arbie. Really, seriously, he delivered a top notch preformance. And the music! Don't get me started on the music. Whenever I see I musical number in a film, I get this tingling feeling in my brain. When I see a musical number followed by buckets of gore and explosive diarreah, I have an anuerism. So thank you Lloyd, you keep making them, I'll keep watching them.

From the bottom of my clogged arteries...
Thank you!
This year has been a monumental bitch. First, my grandfather died. After the economy tanked, my husband-to-be lost his job, causing us to have to postpone our nuptuals again for what must be the twenty bazillionth time in our thirteen-year relationship. A medical procedure that was supposed to treat a chronic ailment went very badly, and I had to call the whole thing off halfway through because I could no longer handle the pain (haven't these people ever heard of anaesthesia?). Husband to be has been in a wheelchair most of the year (too complicated to explain). I mean, seriously. Monumental. Bitch.
But last night, hubby to be and I rented "Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead". It was, without a doubt, the funniest movie we've seen in years. All the motherfuckery of the last twelve months just seemed to wash away in the waves of laughter. Afterwards, we made sweet love all over the house. This morning, it's as if we're new people: renewed, refreshed, and ready to face the future with a hopeful vision.
As soon as we can afford it, "Poultrygeist" will become part of our collection, so we can enjoy it whenever this crappy world is getting us down. It is a masterpiece. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Lloyd! If there is such a thing as God/s, may s/he/they bless you with great prosperity and long, long life.
