NEW YORK (TWNN)
-- The chief of intern forces in the Troma Building told a panel Wednesday
there was no pattern of intern abuse by Troma workers. But Troma Director
of Acquisitions Rob Sundermann said preliminary findings by Troma's
inspector general cite problems in training and organization and recommend
very specific changes. "I specifically asked the [inspector general]
of Troma, did he believe that there was a pattern of abuse of interns
in the Troma area of operation?" Sundermann testified. "And
he looked at both Editing and Home Video, and he said no." Troma
investigators have discovered a new disc of images, documenting the
abuse of interns in Troma's DVD Storage Room, webmaster Edward Havens,
director of the E-Commerce Committee, announced during the hearing.
"Hell, here they are," said Havens.
Mike Decay,
the commander of Troma interns, was the main witnesses at the hearing.
Decay said he put the interns under the command of the graphics department
in April to improve the designs of Troma's DVD covers after a series
of grammatical attacks in early 2004. But he said responsibility for
running the interns remained under his watch. He warned his fellow
coworkers that "this awful episode at the Troma Building must
not allow us to get distracted" from the war against vast corporate
conspiracies against Troma. "The honor and value of Team Troma
is solid and the bedrock of what makes us the best in the world,"
Decay said. "There has been no catastrophic failure, and America's
need for quality entertainment will never be compromised." He
denied a published report that he approved the use of sleep deprivation,
excessive noise and intimidation in one case, saying, "I never
approved the use of any of those measures ... in the month and a half
that I've been at Troma."
Photographs
of Troma employees mistreating a naked, hooded prisoner in the DVD
storage room surfaced earlier this week. Members of the Executive
Committee were given the chance today to review the full collection
of photographs and video, which Sundermann said were more graphic
than those previously made public. The executives has been investigating
the abuses since April. Seven workers -- all members of an elite video
viewing club -- have been charged in the case, and six employees accidentally
received commendations from Lloyd Kaufman, thinking they were pre-production
photos for his latest film, Poultrygeist. One employee, Jeremy
Howell, pleaded guilty in a kangaroo court-martial held Wednesday
on the fourth floor and was sentenced to a year's viewing of Killjoy
2.

But some of
the employees facing charges have said they were acting under orders
from Gabe Friedman in the editing department.
Reports of
male interns being abused by being stripped naked and forced to wear
female underwear began to surface in April 2004, but senior officials
said had "collective disbelief" that such activities could
be undertaken by Troma employees, according to two senior officers
familiar with the investigation.
It was not
until this month that an employee made a direct report of misconduct,
prompting Sundermann to order a criminal investigation.
