Dear
Lloyd,
Hi, I thought you should know about something discovered today. I'm
from the UK and I chose AS-level film studies as part of my college
course and this week we finally got round to independent film. It only
made sense to me that Troma had to fit in there somewhere so I asked
him "Are we going to be doing anything about Troma? they rule!" but
he must of mis-heard me because he looked at me as if I had just said
"I have sex with children and worship Satan!". He said Troma films were
'Not what independent film is all about', but surely Troma is exactly
what independent film is about? it seems in his opinion independent
film is about black and white french movies where people sit in cafe's
and talk about how shitty life is. For some reason we get to learn about
that whining fat fuck Harry Knowles but not Toxie? Anyway, sorry to
bitch at you about this, but I though you should know. Thank you for
all the great movies and keep up the good work,
- Richard Jackson.
p.s. Your book rules. |
Spanish
Public TV praises Troma's political demonstration.
Hey Lloyd!
How are you?
It's great to hear that you are planning to send the Tromaville
Post to your spanish buyers! If you want, we can make a special issue
just
for this purpose. Maybe we can make a #0 issue with some reports about
Troma,
its history and an interview with you. Also you could translate it into
english for your international buyers. What's your opinion?
Regarding that
Don Quixote pic, I'll make it asap and send it to you! Hope
it can be useful for Troma!
Also, we've been
thinking on your next Troma movie. If you think it could
be useful, we can make a CD-Rom in FLASH similar to that one we've made
for the comics thing. In that CD, it could appear the sinopsis, the
characters
and some concept designs or something like this. I think that maybe
it could
be useful to find investors... please, let me know your opinion. You
know
that you can count with us for everything during the pre-, the post-
and
the entirely production.
I tried to contact
El Torres of MEGAMULTIMEDIA (they were interested in
your book) but I'm afraid they have changed their phone #... I can only
contact them via e-mail. Let me know if you want me to do it or if Aviva
is dealing with it. Also, Enrique (the guy from FREAKS) is interested in to publish your
book.
He have called me. We've been talking about the possibility to cost
a
limited
edition between FREAKS and FESTER. Do you think it would be possible?
I've also emailed
HATEWORK (that music group from Detroit). They would love
to play at the Troma Party for the Citizen Toxie premiere at Detroit!
I
gave them your e-mail. Hope they have contacted you...
Hey, I have seen
in the TV the demonstration people made at Hollywood for
the Elia Kazan Oscar a couple of years ago. They have been talking about
the 40s cinema in a TV show this afternoon. In the images they screened
of the demonstration it appeared the Troma Team! The spanish reporter
also
said something similar to: "That lovely guys of Troma... they are
the real
cinema!" I've felt very happy to see it in a public TV in Spain!
Well, have a
nice day! Please, let me know your opinion on these purposes...
Thanks a lot!

DEAR, LLOYD KAUFFMAN
THE OTHER DAY I HAD THE PRIVILAGE OF WATCHING A TROMA FILM CALLED SHAKESPERE
IN AND OUT. I JUST WANTED TO WRITE AND TELL YOU THAT IT WAS FUCKING
GREAT.
I LAUGHED MY ASS OFF, IT IS DEFINATELY ONE OF THE BEST THINGS TROMA
HAS EVER
PUT OUT IN MY OPPINION. ALSO TERROR FIRMER IS A TRUE WORK OF ART. YOU
GUYS
CONSTANTLY PUT OUT GREAT STUFF, AND I REALLY APPRECIATE IT. AS MUCH
AS
MAINSTREAM FILMS SUCK, THE WORLD NEEDS PEOPLE THAT ARE WILLING TO CHALLENGE
IT. LLOYD KAUFMAN YOU ARE A GENIUS. I THINK ALOT OF PEOPLE BLOW YOUR
FILMS
OFF WITHOUT TAKING THE TIME TO REALLY WATCH THEM. THATS JUST SAD TO
ME,
BECAUSE IT SHOWS HOW SCARED PEOPLE ARE TO BREAK AWAY FROM THE MAINSTREAM
AND
EXPERIENCE AND WATCH DIFFERENT THINGS. I JUST WANTED TO WRITE AND TELL
YOU
THAT I DIG WHAT YOUR DOING, AND HOPE THAT YOU KEEP IT UP FOR MANY YEARS
TO
COME. THE WORLD NEEDS MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELF. BY THE WAY HOW DO YOU
FIND YOUR ACTORS? DO YOU ACTUALLY HOLD AUDITIONS, OR DO YOU HAVE AN
ELITE
CAST OF PEOPLE THAT ONLY ACT IN TROMA FILMS? KIND OF LIKE PORNO ACTORS.
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.

Goodmorning
Mr. Kaufman,
I guess
I could say that I am more than amazed that I recieved a reply
from someone as established as yourself. I never would have thought
that a peon like myself would get an E-mail from one of my "hero's."
I was wondering where I could obtain an autograph? I do not see
them
up for purchase on your Web site, and I can't seem to find one
on Ebay...?
Well, like last time I am in a computer class, so I better start
paying
attention...

Michigan here is why i wrote the poem my lovable cat martin was a worthy companion for many years until the
dumb son of a bitch got run over by a car. i was sad, yet at the same
time seeing my friend in three different parts was somewhat inspiring.
i never really did get to fuck his ass, the poem is more about regrets
than anything else. what i could have done. so that is what the poem
is about. it is called "fuck you fuck licker"...
martin i fucked your ass
i licked your balls
i blew my wad on your face
probably two times a week
i watched you fuck my blankets
while i jerked off all over
myself.....
i would eat the shit from
your litter box
i would eat the shit from
your ass as well
the first time i tried to
fuck you in the ass
your ass wasnt loose enough
to fit my dick in
so i just slapped you in the face
with my cock until i eventually
lost my load all over your wiskers
(which i cummed on often old friend)
when i found you three
different parts on the road
my first thought was
"oh sweet three different
parts to fuck"
but soon i learned that
i couldnt even get a hard-on
without looking at your ass first
but now your dead
and i ll probably just fuck my little
brother in the ass until
i get a new cat

In
the Roman Empire, under the reign of Augustus, pleading guilty to the
muder of one's father would have been punishable by a troma-worthy death:
being sewn up in a sack with a rabid dog, and fighting cock, a poisonous
snake and a monkey. The sack would get thrown in the river and as man
and beast drowned, they panicked, causing unthinkable mutilation on the
way to the icy bottom.
That's why Toxie couldn't kill his father in ancient
Rome, even though their magnificent sewers were full of hilarious shit.
Oh, and I love the book. Funniest, most informative, genuinely helpful,
occasionally a masturbation aid, and read entirely on the subway and toilet.
(which are incidentally, where I was concieved, and where I was almost
de-concieved).
Love,
Kibblesmith. (real name, real pain) |

....I thought
you might like to hear from a young fan;
I hope to buy your book soon, by the way.
I can't get hold of alot of your films, as i am underage, and perhaps
my parents would not approve 100%.
I'm lucky though, as a cable channel here in the UK, Bravo, showed a
whole bunch of your films a while back, and channel four had a late
night troma festival. I say Chopper chicks, kabukiman and...redneck
zombies. Only one of them you made i realise, but you realeased the
rest.
I thought chopper chicks was great, and rednecks was cheesy, and kubukiman
could have done with an appearance from el Toxio.
Speaking of which...i can remember watching the old Toxic Crusaders
tv show (Any chance of a new webtoon?) and collecting all the toys.
When I saw they were based on a movie, I had to see it.
So when I did, i was disappointed...very (Bear with me here)
What i was expecting was a live action Toxic Crusaders show.
I thought the movie was kinda cruel...but now, a few years later, I
remember the movie as excellent. I guess I just took it too seriously.
When will Citizen Toxie be out on DVD? I hope there will be cool extras,
like perhaps a history of toxie documentery, with an episode of the
cartoon.
I can't afford the screener, so if you could, please tell me, how exactly
does MElvin cameo in this picture? Does he look like he did in 1983?

Soon to be director of ultra-cheap, home movie "Duck Hunt".

My name is
John Wicencyjusz and I am a really big fan of yours. I recently saw Terror Firmer and Tromeo And Juliet, which were great.
It was really cool to see Debbie Rochon in both films, and I hope you team
up with her again. The Toxic Avenger films are some of the coolest movies I
have ever seen, and Class Of Nuke 'Em HIgh is one of those films that I can
watch over and over again and not get tired of it. And I was wondering if
I could get your autograph. I would really appreciate it. My address is:

Hi Lloyd:
It was great to say hi today. Here are some thoughts from oe New Yorker
to another. They are meant to be positive, not sad:
On Wednesday, September 26th I visited my local Hook and Ladder Company
on Amsterdam Avenue at 67th Street and spoke with Tommy. He and his
House have battled serious blazes in my building and in the building
next door, checked gas leaks in my apartment, turned boilers off or
on in my basement, stopped floods, quieted false emergency exit alarms
and unstuck my neighbors from the elevator.
I knew they
had lost eleven men at the World Trade Center, but as we spoke I became
grimly aware that there were other familiar faces there who I would
probably also normally recognize and greet. Today I had only him to
thank for answering this and all calls.
That night,
NBC showed exclusive footage shot by a very brave doctor at Ground Zero.
Much of his reportage and dialogue with other rescue workers was over
the din of the collapsing buildings. But at one truly chilling point
the only sound was a beautiful, calm chorus of crickets in the silence
of the aftermath.
The NBC reporter
explained that Firemen have audio patches on their jackets which make
this sound when the wearer does not move for more than a certain amount
of time, I believe it is 30 seconds, so other Firemen can find them
in darkness.
There were
so many Firemen trapped at various distances from the doctor's video
camera that the sound became eerily musical. I have worked on a number
of soundtracks, but the concept of their potential to express what an
image can not has been changed for me forever.
Stay in touch...All

Subject:
Andrew, the X-intern revisited
Hi Lloyd,
As the Troma Website is still up and running, I figured you survived
the WTC blast (great coverage on the onion). See you're teaching a course,
that should be nice. Finally an independent director, a truly independent
director, teaching the grunts how to make it on their own - what would
that be financers and explotable topics? Debbie Rochon's breasts? Blind
directors pissing on Debbie Rochon? (I just read that Sarris piece,
Jesus fucking Christ does that guy have some sort of hang up with love
or what?) Marvel inspired superheros? Stan Brakage? Andy Warhol nods?
(Oh fuck that one, those smack heads at Factory 2000 really stunk up
his name ... well not really, but they sure don't know history, besides
the one they've concocted from factoids.)
Anyway I read the NYT article and I did write a response but I didn't
send it in. I thought it was crap. Then I read the other responses and,
aw fuck, I don't care what I write the next time, it's going to the
editor. Read the Corman book, and I have to say, I thought it was quite
good. A little to heavy on the self analyis crap, and a bit more sure
of himself then he should be (House of Usher! what a bore!)
Well
I just wanted to check in and say hi. BTW is there any way I can get
copies of the Troma's Edge shows that I appeared in and helped write?
Or will the rumour prove true and Michael Herz will throw me down the
stairs if I show up?
Saw you went to Baltimore,
boy does that city never change.
Oh
and I've included the letter I wrote for the NYT but didn't send, Just
so you could see it.

Take
care, and lets hope they don't put Anthrax in the water
I recently
read and enjoyed Franz Lidz and Steve Rushin's "How to Tell a Bad
Movie From a Truly Bad Movie" published in the Times Arts &
Leisure section (Sunday August 5, 2001). Lidz and Rushin really do make
a case that bad films are often "pretentious and sententious"
and "should seek to change your life." Still, that seems a
bit too specific to a certain type of film and I'd like to offer the
idea that a truly bad movie need only be boring and forgettable. Forgive
me if my criterion doesn't match yours, for it's just one opinion in
a sea of billions.
While
the article was interesting and humorous, I'd like to point out a couple
of problems. First and foremost is in regards to Lloyd Kaufman, president
of Troma entertainment, the oldest independent studio still in existence.
In the article they mention Kaufman's "unabashedly awful ouevre"
and proceed to list "Surf Nazi's Must Die," "Rabid Grannies"
and "Teenage Cat Girls in Heat." Now I'm not one to argue
semantics, but in my understanding of the word "ouevre," I
would believe it referred to the works of an artist (a.k.a. Mr. Kaufman).
If that is the case, it must be mentioned that none of those films were
directed by Mr. Kaufman and are instead Troma pickups. Mr. Kaufman's
actual work includes such items as "The Toxic Avenger," "Terror
Firmer" and "Tromeo and Juliet." The first spawning a
successful franchise that includes, but is not limited to, three sequels,
comic books, a popular cartoon spin off ("The Toxic Crusaders")
and line of Toxic Avenger related merchandise. Not only that, but the
phrase "Toxic Avenger" has entered the English lexicon and
is often used in articles referring to pollution (however, sadly, Ms.
Carson does not use it in "Silent Spring"). "Tromeo and
Juliet" received good critical response on Its release and is viewed
as an inspired take on Shakespeare's much beloved classic "Romeo
and Juliet." I mention this because the article refers to Mr. Kaufman
as "a low grade Lew Grade whose unspeakable orror films tend to
be unspeakably horrible," which is a bit harsh and in effect dismisses
his voice as that of one suffering "sour grapes" but doesn't
give the reader any true samples of what he, as an artist, has done.
Works, some of which, have received both critical and popular success.
Lidz and Rushin spend much time putting Mr. Kaufman in his "place,"
yet don't give the same treatment to their nameless Warner Brother's
executive, Katrina Renner of Dimension Films, John Waters or any of
their other sources. This is interesting because any cursory search
of WB or Dimension titles will reveal a myriad of films that not only
tend to be "unspeakably horrible" but also "pretentious
and sententious."
The
second problem is the feeling the author's convey that truly bad Films
are neither high brow nor low brow, but middlebrow. All the truly bad
films "Pay It Forward," "Grand Canyon," and "Magnolia"
are not by names such as Bergman, Fellini, H.G. Lewis, or Wood but by
second tier and third tier directors like the poor man's Robert Altman,
P.T. Anderson, and "Raiders of the Lost Ark" screenwriter,
Lawrence Kasdan. Both of these directors have made, or been partially
responsible for, good films. But alas are in the vulnerable position
of being either newcomers and/or making films for mass audiences. The
point might have been made that directors from the high end and the
low end are quite capable of making unwatchable films, and often do.
Yet the article is a cursory look at a "type" of truly bad
movie and space limitations are more likely then not to be the reason
for neglecting this.
It's
often been said that it's easier to critique then to create and I offer
to those interested my own article on Lawrence Kasdan's "Grand
Canyon" available on the Troma Website at XXX. (Yes, I've done
work for Troma, but I'm not writing as a studio shill.) Here you'll
not only find a link to the piece that the Kasdan quote "It's hard
to do one scene ..." was culled from, but also the name of the
Chicago Sun Times critic whose glowing review of "Grand Canyon"
was quoted. A word to the wise, the article is written with a Troma
audience in mind with the length of an English Term Paper, thereby alienating
all potential audiences. The pictures I had nothing to do with.
One
final thing, after reading Lidz and Rushin's article, I not only am
going to rent "Grand Canyon" and "Magnolia" again,
but partake of "Pay it Forward." Funny how an article that's
intended to have its audience avoid certain truly bad movies can create
the opposite effect.

Hey,
what's up, Lloyd? I just thought I would send this letter to tell you
that you're the most brilliant film maker ever, and also to just talk
about bs in general. You've been the most influential on my future film
career (I'm only 17, but I'm scripting a zombie movie with very troma-esque
elements, and getting a good camera for christmas), and I want to break
in as soon as possible into the film business. If I ever get my movie
edited into something resembling professional quality, I will send you
a copy to see about distribution :) I love reading your book, and it certainly
gets me through the day. Ya know, for someone who hadn't written a book
before, you certainly did pen an almighty tome for all future filmmakers
to draw upon for inspiration.
I think that it would be great if you wrote
a novel, I'm sure it could be hilarious. I've introduced many of my friends
to Troma, and almost all of them love the movies. Most love Terror Firmer
or Tromeo and Juliet. I'm slowly Troma-tizing my community of culturally
close-minded (But generally good) people. It's almost difficult to put
into words what an influence (Good and bad) that you and your company
have had on my fragile little mind. I pepper our lunch conversations daily with mentions of Penis Monsters,
cornholing, and frantically fucking grapefruits to recreate the sounds
of lovemaking. Most look at me like I'm sick, and then they see a Troma
movie and the sickness spreads. I will always keep Troma close to me,
and plan on visiting Troma studios as part of our senior road trip. Well,
Lloyd, take care, and god bless all of your family, and Michael Herz's,
too. And Toxie and Kabukiman, of course..

Hi
Lloyd,
Subject: 'Terror sex could trigger baby boom'
A baby boom could hit the US in nine months as
Americans turn to "terror sex" to combat fears of war or further
terrorist attacks, experts say.
Post-disaster sex, or "end-of-the-world sex", means a baby boom is likely in nine months' time, the Los Angeles Times reports. Americans are turning to sex to soothe feelings of fear, vulnerability and sadness, the newspaper said.
University of Washington sociologist Pepper Schwartz said:
"The act of sex is a very elemental, primal feeling of being alive and connected to somebody.
"Sex is part of a life force. When asked, 'How do you want to die?' a lot of people say, 'Making love or having an orgasm'. What they are saying is, 'I want to be most alive the moment before I am dead'."
She said there were parallels between soldiers marrying before heading off to war zones and said demographers should expect a hike in the birth rate. One un-named New York record executive told the newspaper: "Everyone has been through a shared experience and people's defences are down.
"People are vulnerable and that can be really attractive. It's biology at work - gotta procreate if the world is coming to an end."

Dear
Mr. Kaufman,
As a reaction to Troma's call to speak our minds about the cartoons on
the WTC and Pentagon bombings invading the web I would like to say the
following.
To me it seems these awful attacks were done by people who have eliminated
any kind of entertainment, enjoyment or sense of humor out of their lives
entirely - if this is the result of such an attitude I would gladly advocate
NEVER to ban humor or satire on ANYthing ever again!!
I don't know if you remember me, but last april in Amsterdam (at the Festival
of Fantastic Film, where Citizen Toxie premiered) I had a wonderful conversation
with you, in which I explained how my wife Cynthia suffered from breast
cancer and how Troma and your work helped me to find some escapism and
even joy in life after her passing.
While it was a terrible ardeal she had to go through, especially with
the two kids she knew she was going to leave behind, Cynthia herself was
the LAST person NOT to make the occasional joke about her predicament.
And she could have a good laugh about some funny ("offending"
some people might say) remarks about it made by friends or familymembers
- even though these laughs physically hurt enormously everywhere. As a
matter of fact people trying to Do the Politically-Right Thing and only
be serious (or those who didn't know what to say and just neglected her
in the process) hurt her far more than those who could laugh with her,
even in her predicament.
Humor is what saves us, and without it it will be a dull and dreadful
world - and as I said in the first paragraph: without it many more of
these disasters might happen.
I also get angry about the fact that most people find jokes about this
offending, while it seems to be perfectly OK to make a funny film about
the Gulf War (Three Kings) or Vietnam (Goodmorning Vietnam for instance)
- as if it is somehow not so much bad taste to make fun of people dying,
as long as they die on the other side of the world!! The hypocritical
decision to remove the Twin Towers from the latest Spiderman movie also
seems to have more to do with the fear of getting bad press than remorse
for the victims. We can't seriously change EVERYTHING in which these buildings
appear that has been made before they disappeared?? That seems to be getting
toward a 1984-like world where we have to constantly change history on
any occasion something bothers us.
...Attached I send a cartoon (liberty) I cut from a Dutch newpaper that
is not as offensive as some I have seen, but touched me nonetheless....
Very best wishes,
Yours,
Ton from the Netherlands
PS - Doug informed me you and your family were OK when I informed just
after the disaster, and I was happy to hear so. Should you ever need a
place to stay when you are in this funny little country you're more than
welcome!! |

| You
know & there is absolutely no love for troma here in the wonderful
state of West Virgini &...
not once have
I ever seen a troma movie in a video store. Not once have I ever seen
even the toxic avenger in the video stores. I live in the capital city
of West Virginia, and I find that very disturbing. I recently picked
up your book, and must say I am enjoying it thoroughly. It has inspired
me to work on my own independent film. I decided to write you this email
for two reasons. The first being, I wondered if you have any use for
local promotion. Contrary to the popular beliefs often expressed in
television sit-coms and movies, West Virginia is not a complete Podunk
wasteland. If the movies and merchandise was readily available locally,
I am sure that people would be interested in it. The second reason I
am writing you is to thank you for putting out movies like you do. I
just received my terror firmer dvd set this week. No other dvd compilations
even compare to what you will find on many of the troma dvds. Criterion
has nothing on the special features that can be found. With most horror
movies I see on dvd, the ones that are not mainstream that is, you have
three options. Play the movie, trailer, and scene selection. That is
all. I think it is wonderful that Troma makes an effort to make their
dvds stand out. I wanted to thank you for that. I wanted to thank you
for making movies that cater to an audience whos sense of humor is a
little different from the rest of the general populous. Have a nice
day.

I leap for the TV!
I watch a 2nd plane

Both towers are gaping and smoking!
The newscaster doesn't warn me of a replay

I hear rumors of a hi-jacked 737!
Fuck, now the Pentagon!!!
Another plane?
A helicopter?
Both?
The president is in Florida but heading back.
Maybe.
Washington D.C. is busy with paramedics.
New York is a landscape of gray and white thick smoke.
The gutted towers bleed choking fumes.
I
just
saw
the

collapse.
My mouth agape.
My face probably white.

Hello
everyone -
I don't specifically know anyone over at Troma, but I'm a big supporter
of everything you're about and I was relieved to learn that everyone
over there is safe and sound. I have no doubts that most if not all of
you are still in serious shock and perhaps even worrying about people
you know in the city that have not been heard from. Please know that I
am constantly thinking about you all and hoping that things start
looking up soon.
For many years, I've enjoyed horrific, shocking, and subversive art from
Troma and many other independently-minded people and entities. It's
made great cinema, great conversation, and great therapy almost. I've
been grossed out and challenged by the best you've had to offer and
loved every minute of it. Yet no amount of extreme footage and
stomach-churning sequences can ever prepare somebody for true tragedy
such as this.
I only hope that in the coming months, with society understandingly
becoming more paranoid and sensitive, that people will be able to
recognize that although a company like Troma routinely projects horrific
violence and sheer terror, there is a difference between cinematic art
and outright terrorism.
If only everyone lived by Lloyd's "rules of the set..."
Thanks for reading and please know that I am here for any of you for any
reason.
Love,
Brent Eyestone

Dear
Lloyd Kaufman:
Hi. I really enjoyed your films The Toxic Avenger, Cannibal! The Musical
and Terror Firmer. I read that in The Toxic Avenger, Wanda (Jennifer Baptist)
and Slug (Robert Prichard) fell in love on the set and got married. I
also read that Marisa Tomei has a cameo in the film as a Health Club girl.
I think it was neat that The Toxic Avenger was nominated for Best Film
at the Fantasporto awards for the International Fantasy Film Award. Too
bad it didn't win. The version I saw of The Toxic Avenger was the full
version where the kid gets his head run over. I also liked Cannibal! The
Musical. It's neat that it's based on a real life convicted cannibal.I
read that it was made 3 years earlier then when it was released. It was
nice to see both a Troma film and a film by Trey Parker and Matt Stone
at the same time. I'm a fan of their television show South Park and their
movie South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. The version I saw of Terror
Firmer was the unrated director's cut. I own your book Everything I Learned
About Filmmaking I Learned From The Toxic Avenger. It's a very interesting
book. Do you know when Toxic Avenger Part 4 is coming out? Keep up the
good work. Please write back. Thanks.
Sincerely,

Mr. Lloyd Kaufman,
I'm a big fan of your films and I think that you're a really amazing
and talented film maker. I've enjoyed all of your movies that I've had
the pleasure of seeing and I think that they're really interesting and
fun to take in.
They're pretty unconventional and it was so nice to see someone making
films that were testing the limits and just having fun with new ideas.
I know that you're probably very busy but I was wondering if you could
send me an autographed photo? I would be so thrilled and would cherish
it
always.
Thank you so much for the wonderful films. They're really cool.
Thank you also for taking the time to read my note.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Joncas |
Hello,
I'm writing to let you know that I am a huge fan of yours and I love &
appreciate all your hard work. You are so very talented. You are also
a very handsome guy!
I was hoping that I could get an autographed photo of you. It would be
a great honor! Even more so, if you could inscribe it to me personally.
Thank you for your time & God Bless.

My
name is Billy Evans. I am a very sick little boy. My mother is typing
this for me, because I can't. She is crying. The reason she is so sad
is
because I'm so sick.
I was born without a body.
It doesn't hurt, except when I try to breathe. The doctors gave me an
artificial body. It is a burlap bag filled with leaves. The doctors said
that was the best they could do, on account of us having no money or insurance.
I would like to have a body transplant, but we need more money. Mommy
doesn't work, because she said nobody hires crying people. I said, "Don't
cry, Mommy," and she hugged my burlap bag. Mommy always gives me
hugs,
even though she's allergic to burlap, and it makes her sneeze and chafes
her real bad.
I hope you will help me. You can help me if you forward this e-mail to
everyone you know. Forward it to people you don't know, too.
Dr. Johansen said that for every person you forward this e-mail to, Bill
Gates will team up with AOL and send a nickel to NASA. With that funding,
NASA will collect prayers from school children all over America, and have
the astronauts take them up into space, so the angels can hear them
better. Then they will come back to earth, and go to the Pope, and he
will take up a collection in church, and send all the money to the
doctors. The doctors could help me get better then.
Maybe one day I will be able to play baseball. Right now I can only be
third base. Every time you forward this letter, the astronauts can take
more prayers to the angels, and my dream will be closer to coming true.
Please help me. Mommy is so sad, and I want a body. I don't want my
leaves to rot before I turn 10.
If you don't forward this e-mail, that's okay. Mommy says you're a mean
and heartless bastard, who doesn't care about a poor little boy with only
a head. She says if you don't stew in the raw pit of your own
guilt-ridden stomach, she hopes you die a long, slow, horrible death,
and
then burn forever in hell. What kind of cruel person ARE you that you
can't take five fucking MINUTES to forward this to all your friends, so
they can feel guilt and shame about ignoring a poor, bodiless
nine-year-old boy?
Please help me. I try to be happy, but it's hard. I wish I had a kitty.
I
wish I could hold a kitty. I wish I could hold a kitty that wouldn't chew
on me, and try to bury its turds in the leaves of my burlap body. I wish
that very much.
Thank You,
Billy "Smiley" Evans |
| You know & there is
absolutely no love for troma here in the wonderful state of West Virginia &...
not once have
I ever seen a troma movie in a video store.
Have a nice
day.

Mr.
Kaufman-
Last year, while I was at the A&M Texas Film Festival, I had the honor of talkin' to ya for a while, you gave me some free stuff, autographed
a picture, and told me to keep in touch. I read your articles and essays
on troma.com, and I glance through the fan mail sent to you from various
people asking you for various things. I just want to thank you for making a stand against Hollywood film values. I am molded by the way you speak out against censors (because that's what they are) like Joe Lieberman. Yeah, like
almost every fan you get mail from, I too want to be in the film business, because I love it, it's my passion, and it's people like you that although I don't always understand why you do what you do, I respect it for what it is:
art.
Without people to go against the grain, we'd still be using wooly mammothblood to express our experiences on cave walls. We would have no variety. We'd have no creativity. That's why I'm honored to have the autographed picture of you on my wall. If people ask me who the funny looking guy
is, I tell them, and if they don't recognize your name, I assure them that they'veseen something you've done and/or influenced.
Thanks,

Mr. Kaufman:
Just wanted to write you a short note to tell you how big a fan I am of
the Troma films!!! The first one I ever saw was "The Toxic Avenger"
when I was about 14 years old and I loved it!!!! Now that I'm 30 years
old I'm passing on the experience of this truly outrageous film to my
kids! At the time, I had never seen anything like it and I remember telling
my friends how they needed to watch this movie, that it would just blow
them away! I have seen all of the sequels and am highly anticipating "Citizen
Toxie"! I also wanted to let you know that "Tromeo and Juliet"
was a fantastic film also!
Mr. Kaufman, I know that you are an extremely busy man with what must
surely be a very hectic schedule and I truly hate to bother you, but I
was wondering if maybe you would please send me an autographed photo,
maybe something from the Toxic Avenger? I would like nothing more than
to meet you in person and shake your hand, but, realistically, I know
that I'll never be able to do that! An autographed photo from you, though,
would be the next best thing and would be something that I could hang
on my wall and treasure forever!!!!!!!!
I apologize, Mr. Kaufman, for bothering you with my request, but I wanted
to be sure that you knew that there is at least one person in very Rural
Missouri who thinks you're a genius! Thank you for taking the time to
read my letter and please, take care!
Sincerely,
Michael J. Miller

hi,
this isn't really a question, but i just want to share my feelings about
mr. kaufman, and the troma team. anywho....my name is chris, i've only
been a troma fan for, well probably only a year. but in that year, i've fallen
madly in love with troma movies and troma in general. not only are you making terrific movies, but you are making movies that actually stand
for something, and have a point. they are more than just good movies. they
stand for freedom of expression, and independence two things which, quite frankly, have gone down the shitter in america as far as i'm concerned. lloyd kaufman and his visions have shown me the road to 'reel' independence, they made
me want to stick up for the little guy, the underdog, if you will. i've always sort of done that, but i didn't really do or say anything about it. now, i've turned almost every kid in the scene onto troma, and to independent movies, and i've even found new friends through troma movies, and other independent movies. every chance i get to show someone a troma movie/s,
or even just talk about it, i am all over it. but yeah,i'm most likely babbling now, so just a few things and i'll let you be on your way....lloyd kaufman, has even gone as far as inspiring me to become a movie director my self.
and well i guess this would be where the question part of the letter would
come in. i was wondering what mr. kaufman had done, where did he start and
so on. i've been meaning to pick up his book, but nowhere around here (des moines, iowa) has it in stock, and i've been gone all summer touring with my band
and haven't had time to order it, so since i'm here, i thought i would just
ask him <=o) but i can always pick up the book too, either or. anyway...i
just want to deeply and honestly say thank you for everything, and to thank
lloyd, and everone on the troma team thanks and keep up the good work. if there
is anything i can do to help spread the troma love down hear in des moines
or where ever, just let me know. alright, i'm done now, thanks for your time.

Dear Mr. Lloyd Kaufman
Hello! My name is Vesa, I´m 20 of age, and a great movie fan from
Finland.
Since I saw Toxic 1 first time, I´ve collected lot of films You´ve
produced
or directed, and become a huge fan of Yours. I really admire that someone
there still fights for independent cinema. A way to go!
Thereby it would be more than great for me to get Your signature.. Maybe
You
had a signed picture for me? That´d make me more than happy..
Thank You so much for reading my mail and, of course, most of all, of
all
the funny and entertaining moments -
Best regards -
