monster who knows his stuffGreetings from Tromaville!
I’m Actium Maximus
.

So, if you've been reading the Tromaville message boards, you probably already know that the first Toxic Avenger film and Cannibal! The Musical are the first two Troma titles being issued on UMD, the little discs that play in Sony's PSP. The release date is March 7, 2006, and many online retailers are already taking pre-orders. I saw a guy in the subway who was watching Team America: World Police, the last film from Cannibal The Musical's Trey Parker and Matt Stone, on his PSP. so maybe some folks will actually buy these things.

Meanwhile, back in DVD land, here's the...

FEBRUARY NEW RELEASES!

SLAUGHTER PARTY

Everyone knows the classic subgenres of film: the romantic epic, the coming-of-age bittersweet drama, the shameless titty movie, and the kung fu/samurai film. The Four Basic Film Groups, I call them. This movie defies all convention and all logic to create a fifth Basic Film Group: The semi-plotless romp involving a kill spree, a mad doctor, a midget, an ex-wrestler, some adult film stars, and a scream queen.
Sure, Ron Howard's Cinderella Man could also fit in this film group, but I feel it is too conventionally modeled after the shameless-titty-movie group to really join this new one. Don't forget! This DVD comes with exclusive interviews with costars Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and Adam "Seymore Butts" Glasser (of Showtime's Family Business and most of the DVDs stuffed under your mattress you erroneously believe your mom hasn't found).

RAGIN' CAJUN

There's been some good buzz about the DVD intro for this flick on the message boards, and I kind of like that, seeing as I had a hand in creating the intro. As for the movie itself, Bill Gibron on DVDTalk has some kind words. And while it seems as though I'm always mentioning Bill Gibron of DVDTalk liking our shit, he is definitely not a yes-man.
He HATED Witchcraft 666, which came out in January, but wrote a pretty funny review of it nonetheless which is probably still in the DVDTalk archive somewhere. Also, they generally review the flicks early enough that I can mention them in my column.
For example, Film Threat wrote a pretty interesting review of Viewer Discretion Advised, which is included in the Tube Top TV Comedy Double Feature with Bacon Head on their site (click HERE to check it out!).
Don't forget! Ragin' Cajun includes the classic Troma infomercial The Troma System, which aired on Comedy Central in 1993, and hasn't been seen in over a decade. Own a piece of Troma history, that includes appearances by Troma superstars Joe Fleishaker and Debbie Rochon, Dee Dee Ramone, Joe Franklin, and some thin guy who claims to be Michael Herz.

Roan Archival EntertainmentWAY DOWN SOUTH

The Roan Group revives this classic musical from 1939, which bears the only screenplay credit for world-famous poet Langston Hughes, who wrote the film with costar Clarence Muse. Probably the first Hollywood movie to be credited to two black men, Way Down South is a fascinating oddity that, like Song of the South and Shirley Temple's Littlest Rebel, makes it seem like slavery must not've been so bad.
Especially if the slaves were allowed to perform lavish musical numbers all day, like they do here.

OLD SKOOL BUGGIN' 2PAK

At the front of a new wave of repriced 2-packs comes the "urban" modern masterpieces Bugged and Back Road Diner.
NOTE: "Urban" is just a politically correct way of saying the movies star African-Americans, because after all, Back Road Diner is set in the backwoods, and there ain't nothin' "urban" about it.

Keep your eyes peeled for more forthcoming 2-pack instant classics!

TASTE if what's to come!

Coming in March:

LOLLILOVE

Man, I can't lie. Along with those PSP discs, this fuckin' DVD makes March the month I am most excited about this year so far. I worked long and hard to fill this disc to the freakin' brim with extras, and everyone involved with the disc has been very pleased. In fact, we found so much stuff to include on this disc that we had to cut some out, like some classic Troma VHS intros with LolliLove producer Stephen Blackehart and costar James Gunn, back from the Tromeo and Juliet days. But, as we're plotting out some future releases, it looks like those classic intros will resurface sometime in May, so stay tuned for that.

DUMPSTER BABY

Again, I can't lie. This disc is not nearly as packed as the LolliLove disc, but it does have a pretty amusing filmmaker commentary, a great intro with some crazy French dudes, and that Russian music video starring Lloyd Kaufman called "Wild Man." Also, some of the naked chicks in the flick are pretty damn hot.

Preview of LolliLove!

SCARLET MOON

Warren F. Disbrow's astonishing vampire comedy is set to be accompanied by a feature-length documentary on the film's making longer than the film. Not since Peter Jackson's King Kong Diaries or Troma's Apocalypse Soon: The Making of Citizen Toxie, has such an extensive work been made about a film. Also, some of the naked chicks in the flick are pretty hot.

ACTING OUT

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:
Some of the naked chicks in this flick are pretty hot. Others are a little too strange to be appealing (like the woman who talks about her poo fantasy).

Nonetheless, this remains an intensely fascinating documentary in which average folks get to discuss their sexual fantasies on film, and many of them even get to act them out. This movie needs to gain a cult following right freakin' now -- it is that good and that under-appreciated.

PERIOD PIECE

After a triumphant screening at the 2006 Tromadance Film Festival, Period Piece starring Tyree, is officially Troma's second Giuseppe Andrews release of the year. For those of you curious about the Bathrobe Home School Box Set, it is still in the pipeline, but Giuseppe keeps making so many new movies that the older ones get shuffled around. Speaking of older features, one of those flicks, the 78-minute Jacuzzi Rooms featuring Bill Nowlin, Walt Dongo, Sparky Sparks, and Dennis Taylor, is being included on the Period Piece disc, at Giuseppe's request.

VIDEO VIXENS

Mr. Skin already named VIDEO VIXENS one of the 10 best video releases of 2005!
Unfortunately, we pushed the release date back into May 2006, but we can do with premature praise.

MEAT WEED MADNESS

This John Waters-meets-Cheech and Chong flick comes from Aiden Dillard, whose short film The Battle Between the Burps and Farts played Tromadance in '04. The short will also be on the Meat Weed disc.
You may notice that this title has replaced PURE TERROR on the schedule. This is because we found out the terror was only about 27% pure, so we sent the movie back to the filmmakers to further purify.

Coming in June:

MACABRE PAIR OF SHORTS

ROCK 'N' ROLL SPACE PATROL / HICK TREK 2

Two space adventure comedies on one irresistible disc. We are working with the filmmakers now, to see if there is a way to make ROCK 'N' ROLL SPACE PATROL the first flick Troma features in anamorphic widescreen with 5.1 surround sound.
Soon, we might even get more hi-tech, and stop burning all the DVDs we sell from our college roommate's computer.

That's it for now. Have an awesome Black History Month, and if you need a famous black person to write a school report about, go with Jesse Owens. He's the best.
